What is sheet metal fabrication?

Sheet metal fabrication is the process of taking a flat sheet of metal – usually aluminium or steel – and passing it through a series of processes to create a finished, 3D metal structure: for example, an enclosure or a vehicle chassis.

Which materials are used for sheet metal fabrication?

Universal Wolf offers sheet metal fabrication services for aluminium, steel, stainless steel and copper. Our core capability is fabrication of sheet metal up to 10mm thick, although we are able to work outside of this too.

• The most common material used for sheet metal fabrication is steel. Steel is very easy to work with, and holds its shape well when passing through the various sheet metal fabrication stages.
• Alongside steel, aluminium is often used where a lightweight or corrosion-resistant metal is required.
• Stainless steel is another popular choice – commonly used for environments such as pharmaceutical and food preparation and processing, due to its anti-corrosive properties and ease of cleaning.
• Thanks to its conductive properties, copper is a good choice for products incorporating electrical busbars.
