JOSCAR stands for the Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register.
It’s a two-stage supplier qualification and compliance register used by many organisations across the UK defence, aerospace and security sectors. Helios information manages the questionnaire data and qualifies the suppliers ready for buyers to shortlist for new projects and to strengthen their current supply chain.
All questionnaire data is held centrally so suppliers only need to complete JOSCAR once a year to ensure up to date information and accreditation is revalidated. This can include details about company structure, financial standing, insurance, quality systems, health and safety, environmental responsibilities, cyber security, modern slavery policies and wider governance.
JOSCAR supports Defence buyers by helping them see whether a supplier is ready to do business with them. It makes the early stages of supplier assurance clearer and more efficient before diving into the complexities of technical assessments and commercial discussions around projects.
To become part of the supplier base is a two-part process:
Sign up to the platform using some basic company details.
An in-depth questionnaire is issued to collect additional information around various business areas including Health & Safety, IT, Quality and Financial to name a few. There is a fee associated depending on information you have supplied.
Defence procurement comes with a higher level of scrutiny than commercial supply chains. For primes and Defence organisations, working with the right suppliers helps protect delivery, security and reputation.
A supplier with JOSCAR accreditation has already shared evidence across important areas of compliance and governance. This instils confidence and shows there is value for buyers in investing their time progressing new suppliers that have already been qualified into their supply chain, without the admin
JOSCAR accreditation is growing in popularity by both buyers and suppliers alike.
“In the UK and Australia, 9 new buyer organisations joined the community. Supplier participation has grown at pace too, with over 2,000 new suppliers joining.” Hellios.com
The Defence sector market is very competitive, technical capability is not enough to show confidence in your work. Defence buyers want partners who can deliver reliably, manage information responsibly, maintain robust processes and support programmes over the long term with proven results.
JOSCAR matters because it helps reduce uncertainty and in turn reduces the risk to buyers onboarding a new supplier.
Universal Wolf is proud to be part of the JOSCAR community.

Why does it matter for suppliers entering the Defence supply chain?
For SMEs and fabrication suppliers, JOSCAR helps open the door to Defence customers, Tier 1s and wider supply chain opportunities by showing that key compliance, quality, governance and risk management checks have already been completed.
Is JOSCAR accreditation mandatory for defence suppliers? JOSCAR is not always mandatory, but many defence and aerospace buyers use it to support supplier assurance and onboarding.
What does JOSCAR check? JOSCAR reviews supplier information across areas such as compliance, quality, finance, insurance, cyber security, health and safety, and responsible business practices.
Does JOSCAR guarantee defence contract opportunities? No, but it can make it easier for qualified suppliers to be considered because key assurance information is already available.
